The East Coast Trail Asssociation needs your help! Come take a hike with us… Add value to your community and enrich your life.

The East Coast Trail Association is a non-for-profit, registered charity that is a volunteer-managed and membership-based organization established to provide a wilderness hiking experience by developing and maintaining the East Coast Trail, promoting public access, minimizing its impact on the natural environment, and protecting it for future generations. The ECT is a highly valued, well-maintained wilderness hiking trail that showcases the rugged natural beauty and cultural heritage, stretching 336 km along the eastern edge of the Avalon Peninsula.

Volunteer Role

We are seeking two volunteer team members to assist with completing a succession planning project in a timely manner. Your role will be to assist in completing and documenting interviews with critical personnel and working with the Director, Governance & Oversight, to ensure that this translates into an action plan that ensures the continuity of the Association.

We expect this to be a six-month project with the potential for additional work targeting other priorities emerging from the survey, should that be of interest. The hours per week may vary, but would likely average about two hours per week.

Project Description

The East Coast Trail Association is focused on taking actions that ensure the sustainability of the Association. A top priority, following the completion of a Board effectiveness survey, was ensuring that formalized succession plans were in place for critical roles.

To that end, a process for establishing such a plan has been developed and piloted, including templates and guides for the completion of critical inputs to the plan.

Volunteer Profile

The volunteer would ideally have administrative and/or Human Resources training, education, or experience. General business and/or administrative project management experience would also be a good fit and this project could be an excellent opportunity for a student to build out their resume and gain valuable skills. We can flex to work with interested volunteers at an entry level or those who come with considerable experience. This work will be carried out as a team-based project and progress will be reported to the Governance & Oversight Committee of the East Coast Trail Association.
